Day 5 Fish River Canyon
Today we suggest you visit the Fish River Canyon, the third largest canyon in the world and the second largest in Africa. This impressive geological formation had its origins some 1800 million years ago and it has had evidence of human “habitation” for over 50,000 years. Stay overnight at the Hobas campsite. Day 6 Luderitz
Leaving the Fish River Canyon, follow the main route west over the central highland plateau towards the small mountain town of Aus before descending into the Namib Desert. Arrive in Luderitz in the late afternoon and stay at the campsite at Shark Island.
Day 7 Luderitz
While in Luderitz we suggest you explore the many attractions of this quaint harbor town including the historical buildings of the Deutsche-Africa Bank, the Station Building, the Old Post Office and the Turnhalle Building. The best way to do this is on foot. Stay overnight at the Shark Island campsite.
Day 8 Namiba Naufkluft Park
Departing from Luderitz, today's route returns towards Aus before continuing north and following the eastern boundary of the Namib Desert towards the Namib Naukluft Park. Arrive at Sesriem in the late afternoon. Stay at the Sesriem campsite.
Day 9 Sossusvlei
Conduct an early morning excursion along the path of the ancient Tschaub River into the Namib Sand Sea, including a visit to the famed Sossusvlei, Dune 45 and Deadvlei. Many visitors to Namibia say that no part of the desert is more stunning than Sossusvlei, with its monumentally high dunes, the shadows of their sinuous crests continually changing as the day waxes and wanes. Stay at the Sesriem campsite.
Day 10 Swakopmund
Departing from the central Namib Region, continue north today along the eastern boundary of the Namib Naukluft Park passing through the small settlement of Solitaire enroute to the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons. Stay in Swakopmund at the Alte Brucke campsite.
Day 11 Swakopmund
Spend today at leisure exploring Namibia's premier coastal resort town, Swakopmund. This quaint town, nestled between desert and ocean, is enhanced by lush green lawns, palm trees and carefully tended gardens. There is a good selection of restaurants and coffee shops selling traditional German cakes and pastries, while the coastline and desert offer many options for adventure or relaxation. Stay again at the Alte Brucke campsite.
Day 12 Twijfelfontein
Depart early this morning from Swakopmund and travel north through the National West Coast Recreational Area towards the small fishing town of Henties Bay. Enroute, visit the Cape Fur Seal Colony at Cape Cross. Leaving the coast, continue east crossing the “gravel plains” towards the abandoned mining town of Uis, and Namibia's highest Mountain Range. The Brandberg is 2573m at its highest point and is renowned for the famous work of bushman art, “the White Lady”. Arrive in the late afternoon and stay overnight at the Aba Huab campsite, near Twyfelfontein. This area has one of the richest rock engravings and Bushman paintings in Namibia. Guided walking tours can be taken to some of the engraving sites. Interesting geological features in the area include the Burnt Mountain and the dolomite columns known as the “Organ Pipes”.
Please note - the Aba Huab camping cannot be booked as it is a community run campsite. It is on a first come first serve basis and must be paid directly. NOT included in the quotation.
